Berry & Berry, PLLC, a law firm based in Washington, D.C., represents federal, state*, private and public safety employees in their retirement matters before various federal and state agencies, as well as in matters involving retirement plans and benefits.
The Firm represents federal sector employees in such matters as advising employees seeking disability retirement from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM); evaluating errors made by OPM in the course and scope of a federal employee’s retirement; and resolving different types of legal issues that arise from FERS, CSRS, FERCCA (retirement errors), OPM, Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), survivor’s benefit issues and other federal retirement matters.
Many federal employees are unaware that Congress often adjusts federal retirement systems and that it is difficult to qualify for or obtain certain types of retirement; therefore, we strongly advise any federal employee seeking to file even a standard CSRS or FERS retirement application to consider obtaining the advice of an attorney prior to starting the retirement process to avoid problems that may arise.
The Firm also handles matters relating to the qualification and denied appeals of federal employees seeking special federal coverage, such as federal law enforcement officer (LEO) retirement or firefighter provisions.
The Firm also represents private sector employees in such matters as advising them on the entitlement of retirement benefits in the context of their employment, reviewing employment-related and disability agreements that may affect their retirement, and providing general advice and counseling on a variety of other retirement issues.
